EXHIBITION RECOMMENDED BY

Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery and Painted Tree Gallery

overview

In Wanjoo Boodjara, Noongar artist, Maitland Hill, created an intimate series of new work for exhibition at the Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery during January – February 2019.

Curator of the Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery, Gary Aitken, described the works as “beautiful” with an aesthetic unique to Maitland.

Coordinator of the Connect to the Creative Grid project, Fiona Sinclair, says “the works have an evocative connection to the style of the Carrolup school, reflecting diverse landscapes from across Noongar country with which Maitland is intimately familiar. The pieces resonate with a spiritual intensity that comes from flashes of saturated colour, they are a synthesis of both real and imagined landscapes, giving the impression of a heightened reality.”

As ‘Wanjoo Boodjara’ is a small suite of works, Maitland can provide other works from previous year, in a previous style, that illustrate his progression as an artist.

PUBLIC PROGRAM OPTIONS

Maitland is an experienced and entertaining public presenter. He operates his own indigenous cultural tour business in Dwellingup. He facilitates art and cultural workshops for children and adults and can communicate with ease about Noongar culture and his creative process.
